Iphone photos were made material by a process in which disperse dyes are painted on printed image negatives and transferred onto polyester fabric.
The bits of bone and cloth contained in reliquaries would appear worthless without gilt containers to give them significance, to make their sublime presence material.
My iphone camera roll is everything. I reference my photos daily, to preserve crucial memories and trace through lines of my life. How else would I remember the look of Lufthansa’s airplane food? It seemed cruelly ironic that these photos existed as little more than bits of data, when they are so vital to my existence. That wouldn’t do. Earnestly and crudely, I made my memories material, and preserved them in resplendent gold reliquaries.
